Cornea
A sudden, sharp pokey feeling in the eyes
- This can happen if dust or an eyelash gets in the eye – blink as often as possible to try and clear out the dust or eyelash.
- If the pain or discomfort is the same or gets worse, then have it assessed. Patch the eye gently with a soft cloth, to ease the discomfort.
Soap or chemical gets into the eyes
- Wash the eyes with cold, clean water for at least five minutes.
- Patch the eye with a soft cloth for a day.
- The next day, if the vision is blur or the eyes are still sore &/or red, have it assessed. You may require medication to ease the discomfort. With the correct treatment, the discomfort settles down.
Keratoconus
- The vision gets blur over time even with spectacles or contact lenses.
- The cornea starts to point out like a cone, there is sensitivity to light and sometimes the eye is watery &/or painful.
- An eye examination is required and the necessary treatment prescribed.
