OTHER GENERAL EYE CONCERNS
Cataract:
- affects the lens in the eye
- more common in older patients; patients who are diabetic or those who take medication that has steroids
- complaints of blurred, misty vision; light sensitivity &/or watery eyes
- in the early stages, spectacles can assist with the vision
Glaucoma:
- affects the optic nerve, which can affect the vision if left undetected
- at Signature Eyecare, the eye pressure test is done for all patients to monitor for any concerns
Age Related Macula Degeneration:
- affects the macula area in the retina, which affects the central vision over time
- vision is better when looking at things from the periphery
- at Signature Eyecare, patient education is provided on how to better manage this condition
Diabetes, HIV, TB:
- important to have an eye test every year or at any time there is a concern of blur vision
- undetected or untreated complications can lead to irreversible vision loss
Children &/or Pregnant Females:
- regular eye tests are important
- to monitor closely especially if there are household pets as there is the risk of picking up a virus from the pet
- in pregnant females, the infection can pass to the baby
